Pre-School & Kindergarten (Primary Campus)
Music time at the primary campus includes:
- learning songs
- playing instruments (including playing guitar for the first time)
- using finger plays and dance to strengthen fine/gross motor coordination skills, speech/language development, cognitive skills and social skills
By the time they become Kindergarten students, they have a well-developed song request list.
Grades 1-8 (Elementary Campus)
In grades 1-4, in addition to the basic musical concepts, the Music curriculum builds on the skills begun when they were very young and uses music textbooks to teach:
- the universality of music
- music’s multicultural dimension
- music’s history and elements
- instruments from around the world
In grades 5-8, the Music curriculum continues to build on all the principals learned from Pre-K 3 through 4th grade while:
- integrating music with Social Studies and Language Arts
- studying contemporary issues in music
- studying music from other countries through research
In addition to regular Music instruction, CSS offers Band and Chorus. The students' Spring Concerts are a reflection of the love of music that has been nurtured at CCS.
The implementation of the National Standards of Music integrated with the Diocesan Music Curriculum has enabled our children to grow and develop in such wonderful ways, in so many areas and on so many levels.
