CCS Primary Campus Spring News 2010

The entire primary campus participated in the 4H “Egg to Chick” Embryology Project. A farmer from 4H brought eggs to our school in an incubator. The children went up to the Science and Nature room daily to observe the eggs in the incubator and note any changes. After many days of waiting and watching the eggs in the incubator, the chicks hatched from their eggs. They were very wet and tired as we transferred them from the incubator to the brooder box. After they regained their energy and their feathers dried, we took turns petting and holding them. The children refilled water and food containers as our chicks grew bigger and stronger each day. The children learned how to care for them.

The Primary Campus students also learned the life cycle of a butterfly. Each classroom took care of 10 caterpillars. They patiently observed how caterpillars transformed into butterflies. Finally, they released the butterflies when they were ready to fly.
